The Annual Summer Drinks at Champs Hill: 28 May 2016
Looking through the PHTC Fixtures list, there is one which stands out as not requiring any racquets or tennis balls, but which is most enjoyable-it is, of course, the annual summer drinks party. We are very fortunate that David and Mary Bowerman let us hold it in the gardens and Music room at their lovely home at Champs Hill.
This year the weather did not look promising but we were lucky and had a sunny evening so were able to enjoy the wonderful garden, with its sculptures, colourful rhododendrons and azaleas, huge collection of heathers and magnificent views of the South Downs. In the Music room were pictures from the Newlyn School and their visitors, all from the Bowermans’ own collection.
The summer drinks party provides a great opportunity to catch up with other members and their guests, and this year was no exception, there was no shortage of conversation as we enjoyed pleasant drinks and delicious canapes. The latter are provided by members, so outside caterers are not needed, and the bar is also run by members, so it is very much a ‘PHTC party’.
The evening also gives the Chairman the opportunity to say a few words, this year there was naturally an update on the extension plans, as well as presenting prizes.
We plan to hold next year’s summer drinks party on 27th May 2017, do put it in your diary, it’s an excellent evening!!
