It was another busy weekend for Petworth both at the club and for some players in the British Open.
Petworth v Old Harrovians – Sunday 15th Nov
Petworth hosted the Old Harrovians and the match was very close going down to the last match of the day. Petworth won the match 3/2 with some very good tennis played throughout the day and I am told that the curry for lunch was up to match manager David Fortune’s usual high standard!
Night Pennant – Sunday 15th November
One Direction drew 3 sets all with the Moral Hazards but won the match with more games won so they get the win 5 points to 4
British Open – Played at Queens Club
Petworth had three players taking part in the main draw of 24 players. Charlie Braham put up a great fight to push Manchester Professional Darren Long (h’cap 1) to 5 sets but sadly could not quite get the win. Adam Dolman’s opponent was Queens Head Pro Andrew Lyons who had to retire at 4/4 in the first set so Adam went through to play World no 4 Bryn Sayers in the second round. Sadly Adam did not win this one. I won my first round match against Marc Seigneur but came up against World no 3 Steve Virgona yesterday and lost in straight sets. Louis Gordon is partnering Adam Player in the doubles and they played a great match to win in the first round and they now play no 2 seeds Ben Matthews and Kieran Booth tomorrow afternoon. Good luck
A big congratulations to both Charlie and Adam on reaching their first British Open main draw and great experience for them both!
